Welcome

Hi everyone! Let me introduce myself.

My name is Peyton Phillips. I’m currently a Kinesiology major and a Gerontology minor with an emphasis in Physical Therapy at San Diego State University. My academic journey has been heavily driven by curiosity in how the human body moves, functions, and changes over time, more specifically as we age. I’ve always believed in physical activity, not just for maintaining fitness, but for enhancing long-term quality of life.

I enjoy a wide range of physical activities, including going to the gym, racquetball or tennis, long walks with friends, and swimming at the beach. For me, movement is not just a form of exercise but also a way to de-stress and stay connected with my body. These experiences have shaped my belief that exercise is vital to how our bodies age and adapt. I’ve also had great personal experiences with physical therapy, and it gave me a deeper understanding of its impact which definitely inspired my interest in the field.

Throughout my time as a student in both Kinesiology and Gerontology, I’ve started to see the larger picture of how movement, healthcare, and aging intersect. I’ll be sharing reflections and research on topics related to aging, physical health, and wellness, from both a scientific and personal perspective.

These include how exercise affects the body positively and negatively as we age. How insufficient training and understanding among healthcare providers affects the quality of care for elderly patients. Lastly, I want to talk about the benefits of Physical Therapy, when it is recommended to receive treatment, and if it’s truly effective.

My goal for this blog is to not only deepen my own understanding but also to engage with others who care about improving the way we support aging populations. I hope that students, healthcare professionals, and even future employers can find value in what I share. Whether you're passionate about physical therapy, concerned about ageism in healthcare, or just curious about aging, I invite you to follow along as I explore these topics in more detail.

Thanks for reading. I’m excited to get started!
